"Ballet Fantastique helped me in so many ways! It gave me the skills that I needed to succeed in a professional career in dance, the knowledge needed to teach ballet, the confidence and performance quality demanded of dancers, and a place to call home. Donna's level of instruction is reputable and she really meets each individual student's personal needs for their goals with dance. I cannot thank Ballet Fantastique enough for all that they have given me–the experience and knowledge I gained through my involvement has been priceless.”
–Sara Parker, former student (now a ballet teacher and dancer in Salem, OR and graduate of the Dance Department at the University of Oregon)
Some studios claim that they have limited class sizes, but ask them what their student-to-teacher ratio really is. Academy of Ballet Fantastique class sizes are uniquely limited to only 9 students per class (and just 7 students per class in our Professional Division) for an unmatched, highly-motivated learning environment for every one of our students. Ballet lessons at The Academy of Ballet Fantastique thus give you the benefits of a large school's high-caliber training with the semi-private atmosphere of a personal coach—all at a fabulous value. You'll not find this kind of combination anywhere else in the Northwest.
The Academy of Ballet Fantastique is the official training school of the Ballet Fantastique. In addition to the fact that BFan teachers are comprised of Artistic Director and professional dancer-instructors from our Company, there are a number of other benefits for our students that are rarely available at other studios. Throughout the year, Ballet Fantastique students are given diverse and extensive in association with a professional company (think concerts, never recitals). Moreover, being part of a smaller school means that our dancers receive real soloist and small ensemble coaching and performance experience. Other central tenets of our performance program: Every one of our advanced students holds an Apprentice position to perform with the . And our students at every level always receive a free ticket to watch any Company performance in which they are not already performing.
The atmosphere at BFan is filled with opportunity and guidance as our students grow, build confidence, and achieve their highest athletic and artistic potential. Ballet Fantastique was founded over a decade ago by mother-daughters team Donna, Hannah, and Ashley Bontrager. We may be undertaking our first international tours but the BFan atmosphere remains a family, committed to bringing out the best in each of our students. Our friendly company dancers share the studios with BFan students, and we protect a culture where these dancers support and mentor young dancers. BFan instructors build real and caring relationships with each of their students. We are engaged and committed, proud of what we do, down-to-earth—and serious about creating inspired, motivated dancers who are going on to become professional dancers, arts leaders, physical therapists, gallery owners, teachers, and so much more.
Ballet Fantastique's professional coaches aren't advanced ballet students–they are professionals. In fact, not only are they professional dancers, they are also college-educated in dance education with many years of teaching experience. (For all Professional Training Division classes, our instructors are required to have studied for at least ten years with top experts in the Vaganova Syllabus.) This means that they not only know how to dance–they also know how to work with young people. You can trust that your child is truly in the hands of an instructor who is experienced, committed, detail-oriented, passionate, and accessible.
Our gorgeous, bright and airy Academy downtown Eugene ballet studios (960 Oak and 60 E. 10th Ave.) are the choice rehearsal space for several professional dance companies for good reason! Ballet Fantastique is fully equipped with barres, mirrors, professional sprung dance floors (modeled after Pennsylvania Ballet's professional dance center in Philadelphia), dressing rooms, two walls of fourteen-foot windows, and lobbies with double French doors opening into each studio. The City Center for Dance studio also transforms into an intimate performance space for our Preview Performance Series. Please come visit us for a tour of our studios!
Age-appropriate classes for children (ages 3 and up): Awaken the star in your child! Under the careful watch of our inspiring professional teachers (professional BFan dancers all), each of Ballet Fantastique's young students develops rhythm, social and performance skills, and self-expression while exploring the joys of dance. Our age-appropriate dance syllabus for children uses concepts to which kids can relate to introduce movements progressively and in a way that makes sense to them. Engaging music from Disney to Chopin, creative projects, and our one-of-a-kindmake for a warm, inspiring environment.
Professional Division Training Syllabus (beginning at age 8): Some schools don't employ a set training method. At The Academy of Ballet Fantastique, we believe that a proven, progressive syllabus gives our students the clearest technique, the most versatility, and the greatest experience of success—and you can see the difference. Over the past hundred-plus years, thehas trained some of the world's greatest and most well-known dancers, including Anna Pavlova, Svetlana Zakharova, Polina Semionova, Mikhail Baryshnikov, legendary choreographer George Balanchine, and dancers in every respected ballet company in the world. Because Vaganova is more detailed, more intensive, more perfectionist-oriented, dancers who can do Vaganova can do anything (from jazz to Balanchine: you name it!). Our teach with fidelity to the Vaganova Syllabus because in our many combined decades of teaching experience, we have seen again and again that it builds the strongest, most confident, injury-free, and artistically-expressive dancers.
We make getting your child to class easy for your family—and fun once you're here! We're located in the heart of downtown Eugene's ever-beautifully changing art and theater district, with parking located conveniently above in the Oak Street Overpark (free on evenings and weekends, and for the first hour). Our parents love browsing shops on Pearl Street, grabbing a coffee at Full City or Starbucks, visiting the public library or Saturday Market, or getting some shopping done at Farmer's Market or one of the area grocery stores while their dancers are in class.
Last but not least, we are proud of our value. While we may not be the very cheapest dance studio in town, we are competitive with the tuition of every other school (and a much better value than most comparable training programs elsewhere in the U.S.), and work with our families to keep our prices and policies affordable. If quality is important to you, you know that you get what you pay for; and at The Academy of Ballet Fantastique, you get small class sizes and personal attention, professional performance opportunities, a real ballet syllabus and professional instructors who know how to train, challenge, and inspire young people, and one of the most beautiful facilities in the state. 99% of students who come in toend up staying with us.
